I also wish we had Fully Automated Luxury Gay Space Communism instead of Captain Botox… but alas, it is not so.

The next one contained a Flintstones rule 34 image, which I won’t include here for obvious reasons.

;-;

Hans credits his improved social and communication skills learned in prison among other details shared in the public letters.

I thought prisons were meant to cause more trauma and help ensure people never leave so as to increase profits?

A couple of people are finding it difficult because of their home situations

This is why most of the nice cafes in my city are packed for most of the afternoon. A lot of people are WFH but don’t want to stay home for whatever reason they have.

I’ll just use an alias; sudo has been around for to long for me to change it and not be stressed about it.

I suppose it is like a super zip file. I was using Ubuntu’s default backup (Deja Dup) which was just a gui for Duplicity. I was using the gui for everything but I suppose it didn’t work. I spent days running through all the command options for duplicity, but it never yielded any results. I still don’t really know what went wrong, but no matter.

I wanted to upgrade my Ubuntu to a newer version, but I had to do it through the command line. During the upgrade it asked if I wanted to see the file changes or something, so I said yes for fun… I couldn’t get out of the menu, or rather I didn’t know how and seemed to be stuck halfway through the upgrade. I tried a bunch of keys and possible combinations including… Ctrl + X.

So after quitting the terminal halfway through a system upgrade I tried to restore through backup. Turns out the backup was corrupted or something and didn’t work. I never realized because I never thought to test it. I lost a few years of photos and some music files that I’ve had probably for decades that I downloaded off Limewire. I still have the backup file in case it can be salvaged some day, but oh well. Most of the files I was able to download again off of the bay.

I used to always go with Ubuntu LTS for dat stability. One day I had to upgrade to non-LTS version for some reason (that I completely forget) and I’ve never looked back. IME it’s the same as LTS but with all the cool features you wish you had. Which I can’t list rn because I forget.

…Who am I even. idk.

There are also distros that are meant specifically for educational settings:

Note that I don’t think that Endless OS restricts it’s usage.

[Ubuntu 23.10] Increased responsiveness possibly by setting xwayland-allow-grabs to true in dconf?
Hello, Recently there was this annoying 'feature' that would, for example, search the desktop for "t" if I tried to open the terminal with "ctr+alt+t" (the same for any other shortcut as soon as there's useable input). I started searching around for a fix until I eventually found `org/gnome/mutter/wayland/xwayland-allow-grabs` in dconf which, after enabling it, stopped my computer from searching for the letter t on my desktop and opening new tabs everywhere else. It also seems to have had an unexpected upside of increasing responsiveness on my desktop. I.e. much faster word search in .pdf files, snappier opening/closing of windows, seemingly smoother gameplay, etc. My previous attempts were also to force gdm3 to use xorg (which I edited back because it made things slower), a whole bunch of logging in and out, disabling (and re-enabling) the dock, and a few system restarts. None of these seemed to effect any change though, I only realized better responsiveness after setting allow-grabs to true. Can someone tell me if my mushy, sleep deprived brain is correct in assuming that this dconf setting made my computer a bit faster, or was it something else? Thanks!

What would be an even better alternative then involving capitalist ideals, is to learn how to code and freely contribute to the project.

Running Ubuntu 23.10 with xz-utils 5.41 which is unaffected. Versions 5.6.0 and 5.6.1 are the malicious packages. I used Synaptic Package Manager to search for it.

You are all progenitors to the ITA.

As a non-programmer, this entire comment sounds straight out of a Neal Stephenson sci-fi story.

I wish they were already available in Canada.

That moment when you go shopping, but have to stop a column of tanks on the way home.

I had no idea LTS could go up to six years… that’s crazy.

I had this bug (feature) where when I was hosting, pulse would stream the music I was listening to to other players in Deep Rock Galactic. I had no idea it was happening until some one asked me what mod I was using. It apparently wasn’t the best quality so I ‘fixed’ it.

This vast infringement is causing publishers and authors serious financial and creative harm, publishers allege.

Creative harm? As in switching out one graph for the another? Mixing up the table of contents? Maybe adding a sentence or two every few years when that research paper is in the public domain?

*worlds tiniest violin

an average of over 9 million visitors per month from the United States

Who wouldn’t be able to pursue a credible education otherwise.

Publishers should shut the fuck up and take the money that is given to them by rich kids parents. Everyone else can’t afford their shit. They’re making the decades old mistake of thinking that everyone that downloads their books freely would’ve paid for it.

It’s not hate (why would I hate a phone), it’s ridicule. Reminds me of the term “bulshytt” from Neal Stephenson’s Anathem.

bulshytt: Technical and clinical term denoting speech (typically but not necessarily commercial or political) that employs euphemism, convenient vagueness, numbing repetition, and other such rhetorical subterfuges to create the impression that something has been said.

They could’ve picked any other word and used it for the same purpose. Maybe an iPhone Pretzel Rectangle, but of course those are more syllables then the marketing team would’ve liked.

Even with your helpful explanation, I’ve only a vague idea of what it means; specifically, points 3 and 4. It has “Pro” specifications and it is “Max” size. Professionals use this phone? This is the largest item this company can currently make? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

These titles mean nothing and I think it’s funny.

I don’t think I’ll ever need anything like a streaming box or whatever. I’m fine with the computer monitor I have right now, which is a bit wider then an early 2000’s CRT. Anything I stream is done through Firefox with NoScript and Origin to block the bullshit. I’m not entirely sure why anyone uses streaming boxes and whatnot when you can just do the same thing, but safer and cheaper on a desktop. Maybe so you can more easily watch stuff with people in the same room? Find a use for that couch? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I have a 1070 Ti, but I’m on Ubuntu and I haven’t had any issues at all for ~5 years. IMO the issue then is Arch, and how the drivers are handled. I also have only updated the driver once (450-server to 525-server), when Satisfactory switched to unreal engine 5.

I would still recommend AMD though, and I also plan on switching when I have the money for it.

They’ve just made the Spanish articles read like trash a.i. generated spam advertisements. I imagine their traffic from Spanish speaking countries will drop to nothing.

Can someone help me understand why they were targeted in the first place? Maybe to get location+email address in aggregate?

We don’t have true AI yet (if ever). This is more like veneer on a particle board cupboard. Veneer Intelligence.

Pretty much anything on my phone. Though I have recently found f-droid, and through that I found Phonograph. I wish open street maps could replace google maps, but I really don’t know what it’s trying to do.

I use my phone/laptop a lot in class too look things up. Like finding gifs of the stages of a beating heart, and generally, reading about the same topic being covered by the professor, but explained differently. It helps tremendously. That being said, there are certainly other people in any class that are on tiktok or whatever else and those people wouldn’t pay attention with or without their phones. Take their phones away and they’ll just distract themselves with something else. They don’t want to be there and taking their phones away won’t fix that; it will probably just make it worse.

This reminds me of the idea that violent video games causes violence; which they do, but only in people that are pre-disposed to behaving violently; and in those cases they’re violent with or without the video games. It’s the same with smart phones. They’ll only distract people that are already going to be distracted. It’s just a matter of what they’re going to be distracted by.

The onus instead should lie with how the classes are delivered, and tangentially, how the entire system itself is funded.
